Milan Fashion Week day #3
Milan Fashion Week kicked off on Saturday, but it wasn’t until yesterday that the shows got really interest. After a LFW with lots of cheeriness but little to cheer about – as Cathy Horyn said – the Italians, and one British, showed grown men fashion.
Starting by Giorgio Armani in one of his best collections ever. It has been a long time since the Italian designer showed something at this level. A long his 30 years of work celebration, he presented a series of tulip, bubble and ballons skirt, with soft volumes and gently draped. Flat shoes, shiny fabrics and good pleats, completed a sophisticated look.
Roberto Cavalli seems to be leading his Just Cavalli’s girls to the glamazons looks, his main line have once been strong at. Extremely short bubble skirts, loose blouses under voluminous pullovers, boleros or jackets came all in dark colors. Few animal prints gave space to shiny materials and fabrics, such as the gold skinny pant or the voluminous cropped jacket.
Still at a disco atmosphere, Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana, D&G’s disco-punk girls from the 80’s, grew up to a mature sexy women who love leopard prints, fluid androgynous dresses, referencing the 60’s and specially the 70’s Studio 54 scene.
Then it was time for the British designer Christopher Bailey to prove his talent in re-creating Burberry’s signature in completely contemporary clothes. For a/w 08, Bailey showed a series of skinny dress, with nipped waist, under incredible voluminous anoraks, parkas and, of course, Burberry’s signature trench-coats.
