Letting it slide
There’s only a couple of weeks left to have an opportunity to slide down Carsten Holler’s work for the Unilever Series in the Turbine Hall of the Tate Modern. The giant slides by the Belgium artist have proved a huge hit with visitors keen to hurtle down these rather beautiful, silver sculptural installations. Be warned though they are not for the faint-hearted - they are fast and scary. I squealed all the way down the longer ones and the sound echoes all the way back up to the top.
If this experience doesn’t leave you queasy enough the excellent Gilbert & George: Major Exhibition has recently opened on the fourth floor of the Tate and is definitely worth a visit. It is the largest retrospective of any artist ever shown at the Tate Modern and spans forty years of work from these highly interesting East End gents. A fascinating look at the development of these two artists, who have launched a career on the idea of being ‘living sculptures’. It certainly isn’t a dull exhibition with plenty of the usual G&G fascination with bodily waste!
