Bringing back the old style.
You: mover or shaker?
Both?
Then you’ll love Magnolia, the new restaurant and bar opening in Wimbledon on Monday. There, head shaker Gilles Andreas (formerly at Umbaba and The Met Bar) serves the classic Bloody Mary, caipirinha and margarita alongside signature concoctions like Moon York (fresh raspberries, gin, Cointreau, cranberry juice) and Solomon’s Seal (vodka, jasmine tea and soda).
Food is modern European — expect black pudding or potted brown shrimps for starters, followed by braised lamb shank with spring onion mash or calf’s liver with bubble and squeak. For afters, try Baileys bread and butter pudding with Baileys ice cream.
Ebony-stained tables offset floral wallpaper-clad pillars and flocked chandeliers. Floor-to-ceiling windows lend lots of light. A grand piano at the bar will be put to good use for Sunday jazz sessions.
Imagination shaken — or, rather, taken?
You’d better make that move.
