The Soul of Healing

Have you ever been so mesmerised by someone that you yearn for their knowledge? You find yourself glued to their books, audios, videos and movies. And then as if that’s not enough, you get the golden opportunity to attend a seminar, up close and personal!
Welcome to the world of Deepak Chopra.
Last week, I had the thrill of attending a seminar by Deepak Chopra and co-founder, Dr. David Simon at the Chopra Centre for Wellbeing. Located at the world-class spa and resort, La Costa in Carlsbad, California. The seminar was on the Soul of Healing. Participants were guided through an in-depth exploration into the mystery of the body/mind/soul. We journeyed through the looking glass, learning about the Ancient wisdom of Ayurvedic medicine. Compared to western practices, this is a unique approach to wellness. Dr. Simon’s outstanding distillation of mind/body medicine brings together the best of modern and timeless traditions. The basic fundamental principles of Ayurveda include meditation, yoga practice, and the opportunity to experience greater awareness of our own unique body type (called doshas). Each specific body type has its own characteristics and when you are able to identify yours, you can then proceed to find the best choices of foods and supplements for your dosha. The most important goal is to find homeostasis (balance) in your mind/body/spirit. There is an in-depth questionnaire to help you identify your own mind-body type.
Dr. Chopra also explained, in very simple terms, some of the most complex theories about quantum physics. We all basically exist in a ‘Quantum Soup’ with infinite possibilities. Check out the Chopra site to find out your dosha. The three doshas are Vata, Pitta and Kapha. After answering the questionnaire, I found out I was a blend of two, and now at midlife, I seem to be headed towards another! Since our bodies are always changing, we may find more symptoms of other doshas, yet our basic body type is always the same. For example, if you are hyper, restless and long and lean, you may be a Vata and need more warmth. You need to be more grounded. If you are Pitta, you may have a lot of fire, and need more soothing element. If you are Kapha, you tend to be more sluggish, lack energy and can be overweight. You may need some invigorating herbs. Then you can select the perfectly suited Ayurvedic products that specifically address the needs of your body type. To find out your dosha type check out:
