A Personal Chat With Agyness Deyn

I know you will never forgive me for what writing this, but a real Lady has actually no sense of time and when her agent has gone fishing to the Norwegian seas…ok, I’ll stop here. After all, this piece is not about me but the fabulous Agyness Deyn, whom I spotted at Todd Lynn’s after show party and had the pleasure to share several words with.

She is one of the few top models that look equally gorgeous (and themselves!) without the helping hand of a retoucher. In everyday life, she appears exactly as she does in the House of Holland campaign: stunning in her own, punk-adolescent way. When we started speaking, I asked her what has been an idée-fixe of mine, which is what someone that has won the 2007 title of Best Model was really thinking of London Fashion Week. Her reply? “I like it. It brings together creative people and ideas. But I feel that it’s happening too often and thus becoming a bit tiring.” Well, I couldn’t agree more. Commenting on the eye-patch she was wearing, she mentioned it had been specially express-designed for her by House of Holland as she was suffering at that point from an eye infection. An honest, unrehearsed reply, which I much appreciated. I replied back as honestly as she had, saying that I found it very stylish and (express solution or not) I would have adopted the quirky accessory should it suit me. Was there anything else she wanted to say? Well, she added that she was enjoying the opportunity to be out partying with her “mates”, as she is from the UK (but I bet everyone knows that…), and they seemed to indeed have fun before, during and after my intrusion.

From what I’ve seen, Agyness Deyn has nothing of the diva-wise-without-reason attitude of other famous models. She is honest during a conversation, impeccably polite, and that makes her even more interesting. From the zillion of faces that models are obliged to adopt for the fashion industry, I am very satisfied of having see a tiny bit of a most interestingly real face—hers. Yes, I like her.
