Ceramic Art London 2008

Today marked the opening of the annual Ceramic Art London fair for contemporary ceramics, and Chic Today was out and about mingling amongst the artists and connoisseurs to discover who are the current movers and shakers of this fascinating artistic clique. Engrossed in some highly intellectual conversations with the exhibitors, discussing everything from Pollock to mushrooms, we glimpsed some truly fabulous pieces of ceramic worthy of the world’s most exclusive galleries.

Here is a small selection of artists which caught our eye…

Elke Eder-Eich

Teapot in Landscape, 2006

Elke’s fabulously dinky pieces of stoneware seem to have come straight from Alice’s enchanted Wonderland. Her organic creations with gilded flourishes of Rococo are fit for tea with the Mad Hatter himself.

Jonathan Wade

His Far Eastern and northern European artistic influences translate into these harmonious vessels, the colour scheme of which focuses heavily on moss green contrasted with blue-black and red cord details. These highly original containers (above) are ideal for storing everything from tea leaves to your bijoux.

Gareth Mason

Gareth Mason

We simply fell in love with Gareth’s bold, visceral creations that are an expression of the artist’s constant discovery of truth, ‘the only Holy Grail worth chasing’. Gareth’s pieces are an embodiment of contrasts, using unconventional materials and firing techniques that speak of an inspiring personal journey. Truly breathtaking.

Craig Mitchell

Craig Mitchell

If you don’t know whom Craig Mitchell is, make it a point to discover the quirky little world of this ceramic master. His earthenware clay figures are fruit of his exploration of contemporary society, depicting in a highly humorous and exaggerated manner the underlying ridiculosities that riddle our existence.
