B&B Italia: Outdoor Collection
Canasta Collection, Patricia Urquiola
London,UK–Last night, Chic Today caught the first blooms of Spring at a glittering evening hosted by B&B Italia, thrown to celebrate the launch of its first Outdoor collection. The impeccably groomed guests mingled in the fabulous hyacinth and magnolia grandiflora tree-filled gardens designed by Stephen Woodhams (whose clients include Givenchy, Dolce & Gabbana and Hugo Boss), whilst admiring the legendary Italian design house’s remarkable collection.
In the spirit of experimentation and innovation typical of B&B Italia, two famed designers were engaged to produce versatile pieces of furniture that would look as fabulous by a pool as immersed within lush tropical gardens. Patricia Urquiola’s exploded woven patterns form the theme of her Canasta Collection (Spanish for ‘basket’), characterized by geometric shapes and a melange of striped and flowered patterns. Richard Schultz revists his timelessly classic 1966 Collection, introducing new elements such as bar cart and expanding the colour palette to include black. His Swell Seating Collection is an extension of the 1966 Collection, with its armless amchairs and sofa that make it an ideal outdoor solution.
As we nodded our heads to the infectious beats of DJ Nikki, we bumped into the fabulous Miss Urquiola herself, who looked absolutely ravishing in a pair of black patent ballerina shoes and her blonde locks pulled into a neat chignon. I congratulated her on the collection, and she replied with an infectious laugh, “I would usually have spent a year designing such a collection, but Canasta had to be ready in just 3 months…!”. Which is something of an incredible feat, rendered seemingly simple by this highly talented designer.
