My Music-Massive Monday
Having been dealt such a good hand in the theatre stakes on Monday night (see my recent review), I thought it might be a bit too much to expect the beginning of the week to get even better. But that’s what it did, the cheeky little Monday…
I have always been made to feel slightly ashamed of my lack of over-flowing love for Shoreditch, and iLuvLive at Cargo taught me why. There was not a fake-bespectacled, purple-wig wearing DJ declaring he was too cool to even think about going further West than Aldgate, anywhere to be seen.
Okay, so there were some guys (above) with Mr T-style chains from which hung a Connect 4 game. Yes, really. But that was too cool for West. They also provided us with minutes of light entertainment as an excellent alternative to tequila.
The crowd was hyped and happy - and I was soon to find out why. Faith SFX was headlining the night. For those who haven’t been introduced to the serious beat-box skills of Mr Faith watch this video (although it doesn’t come close to doing his live performance justice) and share the excitement:
He appeared on stage and wowed us all with his renditions of entire songs - simultaneous music, lyrics, beats - all from different genres. Justin Timberlake, T2, DMX - this guy’s vocal chords know no human limits.
Neither did our vodka consumption, so it seems. As no sooner had the prodigal voice-box boy left the stage, still reverberating with his home-made beats, I found myself tapping the shoulder of his hoodie. Bombarding him with so many questions at such a high-speed, I have a feeling he may have mistaken me for an amateur female counter-part. I’ll be honest. I don’t recall exactly what I asked or what he answered - but I know he was very nice and very polite. So much so that he even struck a pose:
The night was still young. As were most of the crowd. Young and full of motivation, eagerly promoting themselves via mix-CDs and flyers. These freebies filled my Balenciaga as quickly as the old-skool garage tunes filled up the dance floor.
After busting some ‘99-remix moves to the bubblegum beats of my golden years, we were treated to an excellent performance from Kano. A UK artist who continues to go from strength to strength, we love him. And he is really cute.
Hot on the heels of more hotties in hoodies, we ventured West for some glamourised ghetto.
Kabaret’s Prophecy (Upper John Street, W1) always provides some Monday madness for those greedy people who agree that 3 nights of a weekend are just not enough. Myself included.
On this particular Monday, it was DJ Iron’s birthday, so he was out celebrating with half of the Sony BMG and Virgin Records reps.

Midway through perhaps the 25th bottle of champagne, the world’s Cruiserweight Boxing Champion - David Haye, walked in to wish Iron a happy birthday.
I asked him whether he had given up boxing for baking and brought DJ Iron a birthday cake? Having just enjoyed a stunning victory at the O2 Arena on Saturday against Enzo Maccarinelli, Haye deservedly had plenty of smiles, but no cakes.
After such a fun-filled Monday, I doubt the rest of the week will be worth getting out of bed for.
But next Monday I will be bringing you Big Smoke Soirees from the big, bold, balmy L.A. I am, like, totally psyched.
