Hong Kong International Art Fair 2008
Hong Kong, China– From the 14th to the 18th of May, this bustling hub of the Orient will play host to the region’s first major international art exhibition in over a decade, the Hong Kong International Art Fair. With Lehman Brothers as leading sponsor and a vast array of prestigious galleries arriving everywhere from New York to Mumbai, this event promises to be an absolute treat for avid art-lovers.
The creations for sale will embrace pieces from the likes of Picasso and Warhol, as well as emerging artists such as Hisaya Taira, Jitish Kallat and Fiona Lowry. Special projects will include an exhibition of Hong Kong artists curated by Sabrina Fung, who was responsible for the Hong Kong Pavilion at the Venice Biennale in 2005, as well as a series of talks and guided tours of the event. On the opening day, there will be an invitation-only preview of the works, whilst the opening night will play host to an exclusive reception, the proceeds of which will aid the Hong Kong Cancer Fund.
As remarked by Magnus Renfrew, the Fair’s Director, ‘ART HK 08 is a very timely event. Hong Kong is currently going through a cultural renaissance with significant central funding in the arts to support the sustainable development of the city. ART HK 08 is a major cultural step forward for Hong Kong and will be one of the most significant arts events to take place here.’
This certainly promises to be one of the hottest international art events of the year, so make sure you snap up your tickets quick.
