London,UK– If, like me, you are an avid fan of photography, make sure you pencil into your diaries these unmissable exhibitions which have just debuted and are sweeping the city off of its feet.
Gregory Crewdson’s latest Hopperesque works, currently on display at the White Cube in the West End, are nothing short of incredible. In his exploration of the fine line between cinematography and reality, Crewdson took his lens to a small-town in Massachusetts and captured staged urban scenes dripping in damp yet saturated colours. Set everywhere from lush forests to grim living rooms, these large photographs grasp your attention through their intense details and hazy light, whilst conveying an underlying dispiritidness which permeates the American everyday.
Just a short walk away, at the James Hyman Gallery, 28 of Linda McCartney’s platinum photographs are on display and on sale in exclusive limited editions. Spanning the years from the 60s to the late 90s, Linda’s unquestionable talent in eternalizing fleetingly intimate moments emerges through her snapshots of familial life and legendary personalities, including Mick Jagger, Janis Joplin, John Lennon, and of course, Paul McCartney himself. A personal favourite is Linda’s touching self-portrait captured in Francis Bacon’s London studio during the year of her tragic illness, her blurred reflection captured in a broken mirror. As Paul McCartney
writes in his introductory essay, “I know that Linda would have loved this exhibition staged at an art gallery and the acceptance of her photography as art. Art was part of her life from childhood.” Without a doubt, this is a truly unique glimpse into a truly artistic woman.
