Celebrate Sex and the City Full Blast!

Those fabulous girls are back and check out what phenomenal women they have become.

Yes, it’s nearly, almost, virtually May 30th, the highly anticipated day when everyone will get to find out what’s been going on in our favorite TV girlfriends’ lives. And there is no better way to ring in the event than to spend the weekend in NYC, touring the spots where Carrie, Miranda, Samantha and Charlotte shopped, ate, slept, cried and loved in the series.

This time around - without giving too much of the story away - there are wedding preparations, drama, trauma and the usual joie de vivre we associate with the women of Sex and the City. So, what can be better for a single girl - or single boy, of course, we are an equal opportunity column here at HapUnmEvrAft! - wishing to glorify “singledom” than to join up with friends and have a weekend extravaganza in the Big Apple!

First stop: Get yourselves booked on the Sex and the City tour of the city. There is a special tour outing for the actual opening night of the film, but if you can’t make it to that one, their regular SATC tour is fantastic and true to life. Well, TV life anyway… The tour is a great way to view all the hot spots of the long-lived series and will make a seasoned New Yorker out of almost everyone.

Second up: Buy some advance tickets to the movie on Fandango. No sense waiting until the last minute and then being disappointed. I mean, this is THE film of the spring, for those of us who are over the age of sixteen. Move over Narnia and Iron Man, lets show those movie execs what adults really like! Make sure to see SATC on its opening weekend.

Third thought: Get yourselves reservations at a hot bar in NYC. My favorites include the Rose Bar, in the Gramercy Hotel, and the Living Room Lounge in the W on Union Square. Both very downtown, very fun and very Carrie and Co.

Wear your highest heels, your cutest smile and flirt unabashedly with strangers.

And finally, point four: Shop, shop and shop ’till your drop, with your closest and best circle of friends. Your purchases should include a cute feather hair ornament from Urban Outfitters (not quite the full garden Ms. Parker wore for the London premiere, but in the same vein) some Christian Louboutin shoes from Barneys - remember shoes are VERY important to the SATC girl - great chocolate cupcakes with roses on top, from the Cupcake Cafe in the Flatiron District and some trashy costume jewelry from Patricia Field’s on the Bowery. Ms. Field is, of course, the fashion guru behind the great looks of the SATC women. And her NYC store has been for decades the mecca for quirky, outrageous and ultra-trendy clothing and accessories.

So, round up all your single friends and see you at the movies!

And remember what Carrie says: “After years of living in the city I assumed that if my friends and I ever got our fairy tale endings that would be the end of the story. But real life always has a twist.”

  1. Opening weekend for SATC was a great success! I most enjoyed standing in line with the parade of overdressed women in designer bags and perfectly coiffed hair! And I absolutely loved the message of the film!!!!
