Oh My Dior!
Since Prada and Dolce & Gabbana have managed to turn their branded mobiles into a highly lucrative business, it was, well, only a matter of time before the House of Dior announced its extension beyond the traditional and into the world of mobile phones.
Dior, in collaboration with ModeLabs, recently unveiled a series of mobile phones of excellent design and of not-so-excellent-but-typically-Dior prices, that vary from £3,500/US$5,930 to £5,000/US$9,880 upwards. Named “My Dior” (to give the phone more of a personal issue, I guess), the new objet du desir has all the typical features of a regular cellphone including a touch screen and a camera, plus an innovative approach to the whole designer-mobile concept.
The cost includes not one, but two phones– the ‘main’ Dior mobile and a similar miniature one (I like that) which is barely bigger that a USB key and readily fits into my tiny clutch along with my indispensable red lipstick. The function of this smaller phone is so that it clips to the outside of your bag and connects with the larger one inside, thus helping you avoid the not-so-elegant moments of frantic searches for your phone inside your bag when it rings. Yes, its has certainly solved a major problem of my sophisticated social image indeed. A Dior bag is now required.
