For Those Who Live The Single Life…
The title of Liz Tuccillo’s recently published first novel, How to Be Single, says it all – a story about a single thirty-eight year old woman dealing with a society that caters towards couples. If you have ever found yourself in those awkward situations at family/social gatherings where people constantly ask you why you’re still single, this may be a good read for you.
The main character, Julie Jenson, has much in common with our favorite fictional New York socialite, Carrie Bradshaw. She lives in New York as a book publicist, and spends her free time sipping martinis with her tight-knit group of single gals. Tuccillo happens to be a former story editor for Sex and the City, so these similarities are probably not a coincidence and are sure to turn this novel into a bestseller.
The plot begins with Julie discovering that her friend, Georgia, is being left by her husband for another woman. Heartbroken, Georgia asks Julie to put together a “girls’ night out” with their single friends Alice, Serena and Ruby to remind her how great the single life is. Julie ends up finding the evening to be a downer, so she decides to quit her job and sets out travelling to different countries and to see the world from a different perspective.
This book is certainly a must read for those of you who need to be reminded of the good side of the single life, and anyone else who just wants a good laugh. Tuccillo’s writing is very humorous, and Julie’s romantic adventures will certainly make this one book very difficult to put down.
