Coldplay’s Liberatory New Album
Viva la Vida, Coldplay’s new album, recently hit stores across the world (June 12 in the UK and June 17 in North America), and has already become a huge hit. Being their fourth album, it has definitely lived up to the high expectations of its most die-hard fans.
The art on the album cover is fascinating – a depiction of Liberty Leading the People, painted by 17th century French artist Eugène Delacroix. As this painting symbolizes Liberty breaking free, the same could be said of Coldplay themselves. They are breaking free from their traditional style, and bringing in something new. The title of the album, Viva la Vida, is Spanish for “live the life”, taken from a painting of the same name by 20th century Mexican artist Frida Kahlo. This album certainly breaks the band’s old routine while keeping their same instrumental and melodic styles.
What can you expect from this album? Two of Coldplay’s newly released singles, Viva la Vida and Violet Hill, along with eight other lyrical and instrumental tracks. If you are a huge fan of Coldplay, or even if you have just discovered their music, you will not be disappointed. You can purchase the album for US$9.99/€6,42 here.
