A New Era for the House of Valentino
During the recent glamorous Paris Haute Couture shows, I have to admit that my interest remained focussed on Alessandra Facchinetti’s first couture collection for the house of Valentino.
She had a huge name and a fashion legacy to handle, yet she finally demonstrated that she was more than equipped to live up to it. Choosing the safe path, mixing Italian romantic elegance with the necessary modern touch, she presented bejewelled strapless gowns that were literally showstopping, as well as coats and tailored jackets with lace-details (a must for this coming fall). She remarked: “”I was looking for a strong way to interpret romance, but without the usual sweetness” .
Done. Ok, it wasn’t 100% Valentino, but you could feel that the House is following the right path. And most of all, this collection made us all eager to see what will come next–that, in my opinion, is the definition of success.
